Photo Friday: Bark

Still Standing, Still Peeling

A withered trunk stands surrounded by green that is still alive. The bark lifts like scales and falls away little by little, yet the trunk itself points to the sky, unbroken. Approaching the texture of bark under the theme "Bark," you realize it is not a mere surface but the accumulation of all the years the tree has lived.

The peeling is a process of decay and, at the same time, proof that the tree has not yet fully crumbled. Standing and peeling — two opposing present participles quietly coexist within a single tree.
